Our mission... to provide sport, recreation, and social opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities throughout the metro-east.
PTOEC was founded on March 9, 1966 even before Special Olympics was inaugurated in 1968. PTOEC was founded by parents, teachers, and community members to offer individuals with intellectual disabilities a united opportunity to socialize, and participate in individual and team sports.
PTOEC provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
For almost 54 years PTOEC has been a proud participant in Illinois Special Olympics. From the first Track & Field competition, to the present offering of twelve (12) different sports, PTOEC continues to serve over 200 athletes throughout the Metro-East.
