http://www.bnd.com/2013/09/25/2818315/belleville-teams-have-some-flag.html By the way, the article mentions two players had injuries. Neither of those players were injured playing football. Special Olympics Flag Football is a safe sport. In fact, there were no injuries at all during the Missouri Regional Flag Football Tournament last Sunday. Congratulations to all the athletes and thanks to Coach Rich and assistants! Let's get ready for next year! On June 21, we had 4 athletes who competed in the golf qualifiers for a gold medal which would clinch them a spot to participate in the State competition. Those athletes were: Maddie Harnar (Skills competition), Todd Downing (5 hole competition), Tyler McDaniel (5 hole competition), and Stacey Morgan (9 hole competition). All 4 athletes won the gold!! Congratulations to them all – they did spectacularly!!!!
On September 14th and 15th, those 4 athletes traveled to Decatur to compete for a gold medal in State competition (which is call the Outdoor Sports Festival). Maddie was first to complete her event on the 14th. It was a proud moment when she was presented the gold medal for execution of her golfing skills. Next athlete to complete his event was Tyler. Yet another proud moment presented itself when Tyler was presented the gold medal for his score after playing 5 holes. Then Todd’s event was complete and sure enough, Todd was presented the gold medal for his score after playing 5 holes. With that, the first day was completed. We had 3 out of 4 athletes winning gold medals. While Stacey completed his first 9 holes that same day, however 9-hole competitors have to play 2 rounds, so Stacey had to play again on Sunday. Sunday morning was a perfect weather day for golf. Stacey completed his second round of 9 holes. We anxiously awaited the results – would it be possible to get 4 out of 4 gold medals again??? YES, Stacey was presented the gold medal for his 2 rounds of 9 holes!! It was a perfect ending to a perfect weekend of golf. Thank you to the parents and sponsors of these athletes for doing all they do to promote the game of golf. Thank you to all the volunteers who help with the golf clinics every year – they are the ones who have taught, mentored, and helped to make golf a fun game for our children. Thank you Coach Morgan and thank you to PTOEC for providing the opportunity for all our athletes to participate in every sport! |
