All seven members of the PTOEC Snowshoeing team will be competing at the Illinois State Winter Games on February 4 - 6, 2014 in Galena. Great job! Good luck at state snowshoers and Coach Rich! Post a comment to wish our snowshoers good luck! Craig Dillaplain has been chosen to represent Area 12 and PTOEC in the Special Olympics USA Games in New Jersey June 14 – 21st, 2014. As part of the Illinois Team, Craig will be swimming the 25 yard backstroke, 25 yard breast stroke, 50 yard back stroke and the 4X25 medley. That's a lot of swimming! The swimming events will be held at Princeton University. Craig will be staying with his team during the games. John & Jeanne Dillaplain, Craig’s parents, will attend the games to support Craig and they expect other family members to attend as well. Craig has been competing in Illinois Special Olympics since 1986 and has won numerous local and state medals. The team will have the opportunity to have a cruise around the historic sites of Manhattan including the Statue of Liberty! Other activities include a Trenton Thunder Baseball Game, Opening Ceremony at the Prudential Center in Newark and Closing ceremony at Sun National Bank Center. Congratulations Craig! All your PTOEC friends will be cheering for you!
You're already a champion to us! Post a comment to root for Craig. Brrrr..... it was really cold in Peoria on December 7th, but not too cold for PTOEC bowlers! Six athletes traveled to Peoria to compete in state competition after winning gold medals in the area and regional competitions. Congratulations to the following:
It was really tough competition for these individuals but that didn't stop them from doing their best and making PTOEC proud! Congratulations PTOEC Bowlers and thanks to Coach Darla! Check out a the Belleville News Democrat article on the PTOEC Justice football team's performance last weekend at Ram's Park in Earth City, MO. Gold and Silver medals, way to go PTOEC!
http://www.bnd.com/2013/09/25/2818315/belleville-teams-have-some-flag.html By the way, the article mentions two players had injuries. Neither of those players were injured playing football. Special Olympics Flag Football is a safe sport. In fact, there were no injuries at all during the Missouri Regional Flag Football Tournament last Sunday. Congratulations to all the athletes and thanks to Coach Rich and assistants! Let's get ready for next year! On June 21, we had 4 athletes who competed in the golf qualifiers for a gold medal which would clinch them a spot to participate in the State competition. Those athletes were: Maddie Harnar (Skills competition), Todd Downing (5 hole competition), Tyler McDaniel (5 hole competition), and Stacey Morgan (9 hole competition). All 4 athletes won the gold!! Congratulations to them all – they did spectacularly!!!!
On September 14th and 15th, those 4 athletes traveled to Decatur to compete for a gold medal in State competition (which is call the Outdoor Sports Festival). Maddie was first to complete her event on the 14th. It was a proud moment when she was presented the gold medal for execution of her golfing skills. Next athlete to complete his event was Tyler. Yet another proud moment presented itself when Tyler was presented the gold medal for his score after playing 5 holes. Then Todd’s event was complete and sure enough, Todd was presented the gold medal for his score after playing 5 holes. With that, the first day was completed. We had 3 out of 4 athletes winning gold medals. While Stacey completed his first 9 holes that same day, however 9-hole competitors have to play 2 rounds, so Stacey had to play again on Sunday. Sunday morning was a perfect weather day for golf. Stacey completed his second round of 9 holes. We anxiously awaited the results – would it be possible to get 4 out of 4 gold medals again??? YES, Stacey was presented the gold medal for his 2 rounds of 9 holes!! It was a perfect ending to a perfect weekend of golf. Thank you to the parents and sponsors of these athletes for doing all they do to promote the game of golf. Thank you to all the volunteers who help with the golf clinics every year – they are the ones who have taught, mentored, and helped to make golf a fun game for our children. Thank you Coach Morgan and thank you to PTOEC for providing the opportunity for all our athletes to participate in every sport! The end of the bowling season is approaching and the competition is heating up! Look out for the PTOEC bowlers. Fifty members strong and ready to bowl their way to State! Good luck PTOEC!

We will see you at the Bowling Alley, April on Wednesdays during PTOEC Bowling season! April loves Special Olympics because it is fun, you get to meet new people, you get medals, and it challenges her to use her good sportsmanship. |
